Siesta Key, Sarasota County
Siesta Key family photographer
Siesta Key is the classic Sarasota beach look: bright white quartz sand, open Gulf water and clean sunset light. I use a quieter access away from the main beach for most family sessions, and it is the only location where my fixed-time Mini Sessions run. In 2026, U.S. News & World Report named Siesta Key the No. 1 Best Beach in the U.S.; for photographs, the practical advantage is simpler - light sand, room to move and a backdrop that immediately looks like Sarasota.
Mini sessions are $200 for 15 minutes and $270 for 30. A family hour is $350, or $450 on a Friday to Sunday evening. No travel fee.

Family photography on Siesta Key: why I shoot here, and where exactly
There is one rule I use on this island and it has never failed me: the bigger the parking lot, the more people on the sand in front of it. So I do not meet you at the big lot. I meet you at one of the small accesses, where twenty cars fit and the walk to the water is three to eight minutes depending on which one we use.
The accesses are not interchangeable. One of them has a path through green palms that feels like walking through a small forest, with the masts of moored boats showing above the leaves and water at the end of it. Another opens onto white dunes standing in tall grass. Same island, same light, completely different pictures, and I pick the one that suits your family and the season.
Season matters more than people expect. After the rainy months some of the paths hold water for weeks, the mosquitoes move in, and the pretty walk stops being pretty. When that happens I move us to another access rather than make you wade through it in a white dress.
The sand here is close to pure quartz, not shell grit, and that is not just a nice line: quartz reflects heat instead of absorbing it, so it stays cool underfoot even in August. Tripadvisor and Dr. Beach have both ranked Siesta Key among the best beaches in the country more than once.

Where I photograph on Siesta Key, and where I do not
Beach Access 8 and Beach Access 9
These are the two accesses I use for almost every family on Siesta Key. They sit close to each other, both have small parking areas that usually have space, and from either one the walk to the water is short. I switch between them depending on the weather, how the paths are holding up after rain, and what the light is doing that evening. Both are far less popular than the main beach, so there are simply fewer people in your pictures.
Why not the main public beach
Siesta Beach by the big county lot is the one on every list. For photos it does not work. The sand there is very wide, so you walk a long way before you even reach the water, sometimes across flooded patches after the rains, and on a nice evening there are thousands of people on it. It feels like a different place, crowded and loud, and there is no corner where a family can stand without strangers behind them. I do not hold sessions there at all.
Crescent Beach, Point of Rocks and Turtle Beach
I do photograph on the south end of the island when a family is staying right there and wants to walk out of their own door. It is only fair to say how it looks, though. On many of those stretches the beach is a narrow strip, with condos and hotels standing directly behind you and their guests all around. That leaves one direction to shoot, toward the water, and far fewer different pictures from the same hour. If you are staying there and it matters to you, tell me and we will make it work. If you are free to choose, I will suggest Access 8 or 9.
Several backdrops in one hour
This is the real reason I keep coming back to these two accesses. Besides the classic Siesta picture of white sand, water and the sun going down, there are the masts of moored boats showing over the trees, open dunes with tall grass that look almost like a small desert, and the coastal bushes with big round green leaves that make a deep, contrasting background. In an hour we have time for all of it, and the gallery looks as if we visited several locations, not one.
The path from the parking lot
On longer sessions I often meet you right at the parking lot, because the path down to the beach is beautiful in its own right. We can take a few pictures on the sandy trail and under the palms before we reach the sand. The beach is still what you came for, but frames with real Florida green and palm trees around you are something many other beaches simply do not have.
How I chose these two
I did not pick them from a map. I have photographed families on most of the beaches from Venice to Anna Maria Island, and on Siesta Key I have tried the main beach, the south end and the small accesses along the key. These two gave the most variety, the shortest walk and the fewest strangers in the background, so this is where I bring families now.
Practical notes for Siesta Key
Parking and access
The main county lot has more than 950 free spaces and it is the busiest place on the island. I use the smaller accesses along the key instead, usually Beach Access 8 or 9. I send you the exact meeting point and a pin as soon as you book, because which one we use depends on the season and on how the paths are holding up.
The walk
Three to eight minutes from the car to the water, depending on the access. Firm ground most of the way. If someone in the family walks slowly or uses a stick, tell me when you book and I will pick the short one.
Crowds
Mornings are the quietest hours here by a wide margin. In the evening the beach clears out very quickly once the sun is down, and that emptiness is part of why I keep shooting after it. March and the holiday weeks are the busiest of the year, and I wrote about each: spring break family photos and holiday family photos on Siesta Key.
With small children
Away from the main beach this is an easy place for a two-year-old. The paths are short, the sand is soft and does not burn, and there is room to let a child run instead of asking them to stand still.
Large groups
Ten to fourteen people work here. I have photographed a group of about twenty on this island. The one thing I avoid is putting a big group in the middle of the busiest stretch, so we work to the side of it. Three generations coming together? I wrote a separate page about extended family photos on Siesta Key.
Weather and timing
Sessions run in the last hour of daylight or early in the morning. Florida rain usually passes. If the sky is genuinely against us we move the date, and I say so rather than shoot into a grey wall.
Who this beach suits
This is the beach I suggest first for most families, and the only one where my short mini sessions run. They happen at one fixed spot, in set time slots: four included on the fifteen-minute, five on the thirty, and you can add more people in the same booking for fifty dollars each, up to seven and ten.
Bigger than that, or want a full hour or a different beach? The full family session books online for up to 20 of you, more if you write to me, and it can run here or elsewhere. If you want a session with more than one kind of scenery in it, or you are up early, Lido Key is the stronger choice.
Lido Key if you are up at sunrise or want two different backdrops
Longboat Key if you are staying on that island and want quiet
What families said about Siesta Key
Yuriy was amazing to work with for our family beach photos in Siesta Key! He was so friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic throughout the entire experience. He gave us great directions to find our meeting spot and made the whole process feel easy and enjoyable. The photos turned out beautiful, and he was incredibly generous in sharing additional shots with us. We also received our photos so quickly, which was such a nice bonus!
We had an incredible experience with Yuriy at Siesta Key - especially with kids which is no small feat. His communication was great - providing parking location and exact location to meet at the beach. The photos turned out absolutely stunning - clean, vibrant, and full of life without feeling over-edited.

Questions I get about Siesta Key
Do you shoot on the main public beach?
No. It is the most crowded part of the island, the walk to the water is long, and it shows in the pictures. I use Beach Access 8 or 9, and I tell you exactly where to meet me.
Can you come to Turtle Beach or Crescent Beach, where we are staying?
Yes, if you are staying right there. The strip of sand is narrower and the buildings stand close behind, so there are fewer backdrops than at Access 8 or 9, and I will tell you honestly what to expect before you book.
How early do we need to be there?
For an evening session, about an hour before sunset. I will send you the time for your date, because it moves by a minute or two every day. Sunset for every month is in my guide to the best time on Siesta Key.
Can we do this with a two-year-old?
Yes, and it is easier here than most places. Short walk, soft sand, and I do not ask small children to stand still and smile.
We are twelve people. Does that work?
Yes. Up to 20 of you book the full family session online, and there is no separate large family package. You book the hour and add the people you are bringing.
What if it rains?
Florida rain usually moves through. If the whole evening is gone we move the date. You do not lose the deposit because of weather.
Planning a proposal on Siesta Key?
Surprise proposal
$450 for 45 minutes
Friday to Sunday evening is $500. 60 edited photographs. We settle the spot and the time by message before the day, I stay out of the way until the ring comes out, then photograph the reaction and a short couple session after.
Getting married instead?
A small ceremony on Siesta Key, $600
One hour with up to 10 guests: the vows, the first kiss, your family and a walk along the water. In late December the sun sets around 5:40 pm, and the weeks around Christmas and New Year are the busiest time of the year for proposals and small weddings here.
